Vineyard in Istria

Croatia Istria

During our lunch by the beach, we decided to visit a local vineyard. A Google search led us to CUJ Vineyard where we were welcomed by Branko, one of the employees there. We sat down on the beautiful terrace, let our dog run free and enjoyed the wine tasting Branko arranged for us. Time kind of stood still, we took our time and enjoyed the experience. CUJ is a relatively new vineyard, is prettily restored and produces tasty wines and fabulous olive oil which we purchased to take home with us. A great experience and a lovely host - a beautiful afternoon!

Looking for places to eat in Istria? Here is a list of the places we tried during our recent trip: For really good Pizza go to (link: https://kaos-umag.eatbu.hr/?lang=en#menu text: Kaos Pizza) in (link: https://goo.gl/maps/BngqqJykLKi4LTNG9 text: Umag). It is a simple, but really good pizzeria where you'll find locals and tourists alike. Great pizza selection, really tasty and friendly, fast service! And the tiramisu was the icing on the cake, so yummy!! Location: For seafood and local delicacies, we tried (link: https://www.porto-salvore.com/ text: Restaurant Porto) in the (link: https://g.page/portosalvore?share text: old port of Savudrija.) A cute, remote spot, directly at the old port with another great seafood restaurant next to it. Fabulous sunset spot, delicious local wine (try the Malvazija, my new favourite!), lovely service and really great food. The local truffle pasta is my favourite and I have to eat it at least once when I am in the area. Alex loved his fish and seafood choice of tuna tartare and seafood pasta. Really lovely family-run restaurant! As truffle pasta only once was not enough, we found another lovely restaurant which served amazing truffle pasta, which is called (link: https://www.staripodrum.info/en.html text: Konoba Stari Podrum). We found it by chance after our visit to a winery close to the (link: https://goo.gl/maps/i54nkFAfxVn1vQj58 text: Slovenian border,) loved the look and feel of it and got a table without a reservation. If you do want to eat here, I recommend you book a table ahead of your visit, it got very busy during our visit and it seemed popular with both tourists and locals. Service was excellent, the wine lovely and the black and white truffle pasta was maybe the best I've ever had. Thanks to the blog (link: https://insiderei.com/listen/silvia-trippolt-maderbachers-istrien-foodie-tipps/ text: www.insiderei.com) I learned about Sea Streetfood and (link: https://fish-house-rovinj.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral text: The Fish House) in Rovinj. If you like fish and seafood and are in Rovinj, look it up. It is really worth a try! A small street foodie kind of place with little in and outdoor seating, great tasting food and always a little line of people waiting to grab a seat for a bite.

Where we stayed in Istria

We stayed at (link: https://www.kempinski.com/en/istria/hotel-adriatic/ text: Kempinski Adriatic) in northern Istria, a modern seaside resort overlooking the Adriatic Sea with direct views of neighbouring Slovenia. A great, modern hotel with spacious rooms with beautiful balconies, heavenly beds and delicious breakfast on the terrace if the weather allows. Love the large pool area and direct beach access for those lazy, sunny days! Perfect for those last days of summer we thought. Good to know: Love the (link: https://kempinski-dev.s3.amazonaws.com/34393865/kipuy_activityguide_engde.pdf text: Kempinski activities guide), taking you around Istria and the great things to be discovered there

What to do in Istria

Visit Coastal Towns (link: https://goo.gl/maps/HD2X6o4FptUvZVaD8 text: Rovinj )for example, a cute Croatian fishing port on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. The old town stands on a headland, with houses tightly crowded down to the seafront. Its hilltop church of St. Euphemia is dominating the skyline and south of the old town is Lone Bay, one of the area’s pebble beaches. We started our visit with a coffee on the terrace of the beautiful Grand Hotel Rovinj. Afterwards, we walked along the harbour, watched the boats, and the people, visited the church had fabulous seafood and an amazing sundowner and this stunning place directly on the waterfront at (link: https://goo.gl/maps/ymCFip1oJBPYx2Wy8 text: Restoran Lampo) Or try (link: https://goo.gl/maps/gpqo36V39kVMiJmXA text: Vrsar), a small seaside town, located 9 kilometres south of Poreč. The historical centre is located on top of a hill, including a 40-meter high bell tower and has some pretty squares with lovely gastronomy. From there, we walked downhill to the port where you can walk, eat, drink or book boat rides to discover the bay. Both are beautiful quaint seaside towns worth a little visit. Wine Wine Wine Istria is a great wine region and we visit the (link: https://www.kozlovic.hr/en/ text: Kozlovic vinery) in the Valle area, bordering Slovenia. A beautiful modern, family-run estate with pretty views over the valley and the vineyards. We went there without a reservation and were in luck as they could squeeze us in. We tried one of their roses and red wine and enjoyed the view, the sun and the goings on during our visit. Other visitors had a full wine tasting which looked like a great option too! A visit to this winery should be on your list if you like wine and are in the area!

In the hills of Istria we found this pretty stone town with a beautiful view of the countryside. A historic place, full of galleries, and small souvenir shops where today, mostly artists live. A very photogenic place which is absolutely worth a visit. We stopped, went for a walk and shot some photos and took a break for a coffee with a view!
