Prosecco Hills

While we lived in Venice, we learned about the area called “(link: http://www.italia.it/en/travel-ideas/unesco-world-heritage-sites/the-prosecco-hills-a-land-of-nature-history-and-culture-unescos-world-heritage-site.html text: Prosecco Hills)”. This area between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso, is Italy´s 55th UNESCO World Heritage site and known for its very special Prosecco produce. We planned for a trip to go and explore this area in April 2020 but due to the pandemic, we had to postpone it. Now, over one year later we persuaded some friends to join us and finally got to take this trip. We drove from Vienna and it took us just under six hours to arrive at our destination. We found a very special place to stay, planned for some fabulous activities, and enjoyed spending time with friends, exploring new places, hearing another language, and eating different food. Traveling – we have definitely missed you and we are so happy it is possible again.

Stay at Foresteria Borgoluce

It took us a little while to decide on a place to stay but once I came across (link: https://borgoluce.it/en/ospitalita/ text: Foresteria Borgoluce), the decision was made. It looked beautiful, so Italian, and is part of an estate comprising of a farm, vineyards, holiday accommodation, restaurants, a farm shop, and food production sites. Everything that is produced here can be consumed and purchased right then and there. The guest accommodation and the full estate are not only beautifully appointed and maintained, but the estate is also eco-sustained. The energy used comes from the by-products of the fields and farms and wood is burned by a biomass boiler.  The swimming pool is biological, as the chlorine and other chemical products are replaced with plants, according to the principles of Phyto purification. The rooms are all unique and offer everything you need, the breakfast is delicious and gives a taste of the farm produces. The restaurant, (link: https://borgoluce.it/en/ristoranti/ text: Osteria Borgoluce) was delicious, the shop definitely worth a visit and the Prosecco was exactly what we were looking for. And the favourite part of the estate? The natural pool for sure. We loved the refreshing pool, the frogs, and that we had the place totally to ourselves one afternoon. Amazing!! We can absolutely recommend Foresteria Borgoluce and hope you like it as much as we did when you try it!

Visit Treviso

On our first day, we drove to the town of Treviso. It is the capital of the province of Treviso and part of the Veneto region. The town has approx. 85.000 inhabitants of which about 3.000 live within the Venetian walls in the historical and monumental center. Treviso is a pretty, typically North Italian town with many historic buildings, lovely small alleys, great shopping, many cafes, bars, and restaurants. Somehow we spent the whole day here, walking, shopping, eating, and drinking. A beautiful first day back in lovely Italy.

Vespa Riding in Italy

This one we couldn´t miss out on. A must-do in my opinion is (link: https://www.vesparentdolomiti.it/en/ text: renting a Vespa) and exploring the vineyards of the Prosecco region on two wheels. There are a few companies renting out Vespas and we chose “Vespa Rent Dolomiti”. We decided last minute and were lucky to still get two Vespas and four helmets for our tour. The introduction was easy and very well prepared. We got a map of the region with tips for sights, tastings, and places to visit and eat. It was very well organised and we were quickly on our way. Up and down the Prosecco Hills, we spent a wonderful day in the vineyards, exploring lovely old towns, tasted some delicious Prosecco, and felt a little adventurous too. Although I got scared along the way when Alex was speeding or cutting corners (yes, I was the annoying passenger…) I still loved this experience and would do it all over again.

Prosecco Hill Eating

On our first evening, we decided to try out the restaurant “(link: https://borgoluce.it/en/ristoranti/ text: Osteria Borgoluce)” that is part of the estate. From our guesthouse, we walked through the vineyards and fields to get to our dinner location, a beautiful but also quite a long walk as it took us 45 minutes to get there. On our way back, we took a taxi… But it was definitely worthwhile. We had a beautiful table on the terrace with views of the vineyards. We tried and tasted the local Prosecco and wines and ate delicious Italian food served by a great service team! Another recommendation, even if you do not decide to stay on the estate. Beautiful surroundings and great tastes, we enjoyed it so much!
