The Hotel - Schloss Fleesensee

There is a huge variety of different accommodations to choose from. Everything from holiday apartments and self-catering houses to fantastic hotels or houseboats. I haven't tried the houseboat yet, but it is high up on my list. This time around we chose a hotel and stayed at the Schloss Fleesensee, one of the most fabulous hotels in the area. Built-in 1842 the Schloss today has 179 rooms and suites, 2 restaurants, a beautiful bar, a large golf course next to the hotel, and an extensive spa with an outdoor pool. The staff of the hotel was exceptionally friendly and caring, the food was delicious throughout (they either grow their food on-site or use regional products only in all their F&B outlets) and we felt very well looked after during our stay. Our rooms were in one of the side wings of the hotel and were a bit older. They were large, spotless, and very well maintained and I believe they will receive a little upgrade in the near future.

Food & Drink
During our stay, we tried all F&B outlets of the hotel, except for the fine dining restaurant Blücher by Lafer. But I have heard many good things about it and would definitely try it should we go back in the future. With regards to the food we were being served during our stay, I only have really good things to say. Not a single dish we tried disappointed. Breakfast was served buffet style and there is an inside and outside area to sit. If it is warm I recommend the terrace as you have stunning views of the trees and the golf course. The restaurant from the inside is also beautifully decorated and looked great. The choice of dishes and drinks was huge and everything we tried was delicious. My personal favourite was the custom-made omelette and waffles, so tasty!! We also had dinner in the stylish bar which was delicious and so was the cake and coffee we shared one afternoon. If you are into food, this is a great place for you. We had a small dog and my little niece (who was ten months old at the time) with us and the staff couldn't have been nicer. And on our last day, it was my mum's birthday and we even received a celebratory glass of bubbly with our breakfast. Very thoughtful!

The Spa looked beautiful, offered a great selection of treatments and massages together with an indoor and outdoor pool. As the weather was still nice and warm we could make use of the outdoor pool which was a real treat! The pool is an infinity pool leading directly to the park and it is a very special feeling swimming there under those stunning trees. Behind the Schloss is this lovely park which eventually becomes the hotel's golf course. We loved our stay and can wholeheartedly recommend a visit Good food, attentive service, and a really nice atmosphere all around. Maybe just a tip, if you are travelling with children, they are only allowed in the pool area if they are older than 14 years.

Fleesensee and the German Lake District

Sometimes you don't have to go far to discover something nice and new. My sister and I invited our mum on a short getaway and decided to go to the Northern German Lake District, located between Berlin and the Baltic Sea coast. The biggest lake in the area is called Müritz, which is the largest German lake connected to many smaller lakes in the area, hence it is known as Germany's Lake District. It is the perfect destination if you live either in Berlin (or Hamburg for example) or if you want to add some days out in the country to your Berlin holiday for some peace and quiet. Experience nature, get away from the city noise, relax, unwind, and re-charge. The area is famous for picturesque northern towns, the Great Lakes perfect for swimming, sailing, surfing and fishing, fantastic golf courses, cycling and walking. Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been in a while or never before.

Things to do around Lake Fleesensee

The lake closest to the hotel is called "Fleesensee" which is approximately 2 kilometres away from the hotel. The town located at the lake is called Göhren-Lebbin and has some locals but also a great choice of hotels, holiday resorts, and apartments. From the hotel, you can drive and park at the lake easily. Alternatively, you can rent bicycles at the hotel and cycle there. There are a few beaches on the shores of the lake for sunbathing and swimming or you can surf or rent a boat. Without a license, you are able to rent of small boat to cruise the different lakes of the area. This is a really cool thing to do and on a warm day, just stop in the middle of the lake and jump in the water. What a treat!! I personally really enjoyed cycling in the area too. It is pretty much flat everywhere, bigger roads have cycling lanes or cycle on the quieter country road around the lakes. There are places to stop for a drink and a snack everywhere or bring your own picnic along. Just a nice way to spend the day and a great idea if you want to discover other pretty towns like Waren or Malchow. They are picturesque small towns, with the typical Northern German look and feel to them. You find some lovely churches to discover, great ice cream to eat, and lovely restaurants with water views all over.
