We really wanted to stay in a Finca away from the usual tourist spots and enjoy a different side of the island. After a long search we finally found the place we were looking for on www.fincallorca.com . It is an old farm that was transformed into a Finca holiday spot with 7 different units of various sizes. It lies within a stunningly beautiful majorquin garden, approximately 30 minutes from the airport. Close to the towns of Sencelles, Costix and Inca. We really enjoyed this beautiful part of the world with our own holiday home on two stories, a front and back garden and a good sized pool. On some days, when all other residents where gone, we even had the pool to ourselves. This is a truley beautiful and serene spot that we would go back to in a heartbeat!

Mallorca is one of those places that people do come back to time and time again. And so did we. After five years of being absent, we decided to go back for our early summer holiday. We combined a week at a beautiful Finca with two days in Palma and really enjoyed the combination of city and countryside break. We rented a car, discovered parts of the island we didn’t know, went to local markets and explored new beaches and restaurants. On our first day, we visited the Sunday market in Santa Maria. A great place for fruit and vegetables, bread, cheese and meat! You can try and buy local products as well as summer dresses, bags or shoes. Great fun!! Locals and tourists alike stroll around the market and stock up on food. A great start to our holiday week. There are markets in different parts of the island nearly every day of the week in case you cannot make it on Sunday!

The west coast of Mallorca is quite rocky and hilly and it is home to beautiful towns like Soller, Deja and Valdemossa. The focus in Sóller is the Plaça Constitució which is surrounded by pretty cafés and has plane trees and a fountain in its centre. From there you can stroll around the tiny streets and cute boutiques. The tram passes through the Plaça on its way to and from the main station which has been restored to incorporate a museum of Picasso and Joan Miró. The church of Sant Bartomeu facing the east side of the Plaça is flanked by the town hall and the Banco de Sóller, a remarkable 1912 Modernista building. Valldemossa is also very popular with tourists and some main attractions include the 13th century monastery in the heart of the old town.

If the weather isn’t good enough to swim and sunbathe, there is a ton of things to do. Starting from plain old shopping in the islands decent Outlet Mall, to shopping for pretty summer dresses and shoes in every town we visited on the island. There are also many picturesque towns to visit and explore for examples Port Andratx with its beautiful harbour and great choices of restaurants at the waterfront, Portals Nous in the south or Port de Pollenca on the northern end of the island. They all have their individual charms and are worth a visit and a meal! You will not be bored!
